2.7.11

Philippians 4:8-9

8Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things. 9Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me-put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.


Dear friend,

Our minds are powerful and complex and wield much influence over our actions. Paul knew that if we put our focus on the right and pure things in life, the things that bring honor to and glorify God, that our actions would follow.

If we allow thoughts that are contrary to God's desire for our lives consume us, then eventually our speech and actions will be contrary to God. Paul appeals to us to think about the good things, the excellent and praiseworthy things, and then to "put it into practice." He knew our actions would follow the course charted by our thoughts.

If we set our sights on the sky and eternity in Heaven with Jesus and only think of such things; true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy things, then our actions and our words are sure to follow!
